Devin Townsend is certainly no stranger to Australia having worked with bands and toured in the country numerous times over the years. It was only 2 years ago that we saw The Devin Townsend Project tour the country and now they will be back in October with progressive act Periphery (interview here) for an east coast tour that will see the band perform tracks from an extensive back catalogue as well as their latest work "Ziltoid 2". We caught up with the legendary musician himself in the middle of a busy schedule for a quick chat about the tour and what keeps him on the road.

Devin: There's certainly a similarity between the Australian audience and I get the perspective that I have for what I do. I've been doing it for so many years and I haven't had to do commercial music, I haven't had to do anything that anybody has asked me ever and there is something to be said for that. As I get older I'm still being me, I don't have to pretend I'm a younger version of me and there's an aspect of just saying fuck it to all those parameters that I think resonates in Australia better than it does in some other places. I don't know why, maybe that sort of attitude is also there as it is back where I'm from but either way, it seems to be something that makes sense to Australia and also makes sense to me.
