Sevendust

It's been a few years since Sevendust were in Australia, the last time being for Soundwave Festival back in 2011. After an unsuccessful attempt at coming back, the rockers finally arrived in Perth on a sweltering hot night to a packed crowd so here's the lowdown on the night.

Opening band Tempest Rising warmed things up on this hot evening to an already packed crowd who were super keen for tonight's show. The Perth metallers blasted through their set while the crowd kept pouring in, that visual of seeing a near capacity crowd checking out the local act is a great thing to see and the band took advantage of it by putting on one of their better sets in the few times that I have seen them. It was a coveted spot being the only support act on the bill and Tempest Rising rose to the occasion.

Sevendust finally hit the stage for their first Aussie show in 5 years, the band knew it was a long time coming and one of the most touching things to see at tonight's show was the amount of appreciation the members of Sevendust had for being on stage in Australia and for all the fans that showed up. It was humbling of the band and the same felt within the crowd, frontman LJ even tearing up introducing tracks like "Angel's Son" and "Shine". With what the band have gone through in recent years, both good and bad, it was understandable and such an uplifting experience to see. No matter whether you are a fan or not, it was hard to not appreciate everything that went on tonight.

The band are on tour in support of their latest effort "Kill The Flaw", however the band focused more on earlier material from such seminal albums like "Sevendust", "Home" and "Animosity". "Thank You" which was recently nominated for a Grammy award was one of the only new tracks to be played and certainly a fitting song for the vibe of the show tonight. The classic "Black" kicked things off while other albums was splattered around as the set went on, the show was clearly catered for the old school Sevendust fans and it showed as many of the tracks were sung by the crowd which even overpowered LJ's voice in the venue.

"Waffle" was a big hit and is still regarded as one of Sevendust's trademark songs, surprisingly it entered the set fairly early on in the night. "Shine" was a highlight though and definitely had the crowd rocking along, there was less movement in the moshpit though compared to the amount of singing the fans took upon themselves to participate in. The band noticed it and took advantage of it, interacting with the crowd at every opportunity while throwing various guitar picks and drumsticks into the audience (myself lucky enough to catch a stick too!). A fantastic show by the now veteran rockers who seem to be absolutely on top of the world judging by their such enthusiastic mood and vibe, a definite not to miss tour!
