LIVE REVIEW: ROCK CHICK Featuring Nat Allison

Burvale Hotel, Nunawading - Saturday 31st August

The Burvale Hotel in Nunawading Victoria is the venue for tonight’s show, Rock Chick by Nat Allison and backed up by the boys from Palace of the King. Last time I saw Nat she was the cool guitar player backing up Suzi Quatro on her Australian tour last summer but tonight she is front and centre of her tribute show to legendary female rockers. Nat is backed by Brayden Becher on drums, Anthony Licciardi on bass and Leigh Maden on guitar.

Nat appears on stage in the mandatory rock uniform of black, tight leather and custom made silver sparkling boots. Nat opens the show with Pink’s ‘So what’ and moves quickly into ‘Cherry Bomb’ by the Runaways. In her first set of twelve songs she plays music by The Divinyls, Suzi Quatro, No Doubt, Pat Benatar and Katie Perry to name a few. With her unmistakable passion for the music and her incredible guitar skills she easily has the crowd up close, dancing and singing along. Her band play with a blend of classic and modern rock sounds. The powerful drum beats and the rhythm of the bass and guitar are the perfect compliment to Nat’s vocals and lead guitar playing.

After a very satisfying first set, Nat and the band returned for a second set of ten more songs and these were a more powerful collection. Starting with Lady Gaga’s ‘Shallow’ with Bradley Cooper’s part sung by bass player Anthony. Not to leave the boys out there was a tribute to Led Zeppelin and AC DC.

The mainly older crowd with an even spread of men and women were full of strong voices and enthusiastic applause. They were taken on a journey through iconic female rockers including Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Blondie and a crowd favourite Shania Twain’s ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’. The show closed with an encore performance of Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’ and a very entertaining night was had by all.

If you are local and want to see Nat Allison as a solo artist or performing her Rock Chick show you might have to be quick as she leaves on a European tour mid September 2024, but will be back in Australia in October.
