Best described as a progressive Metalcore band, Galactic Pegasus come from from British Columbia, Canada. Their sound is mostly influenced by Metalcore from the late 2000’s, as well as the more modern Djent movement. By combining these two main influences, along with many others from each member, Galactic Pegasus has been able to create their own unique sound. We take a look at their newest full length album “Phantom Of The Hill”.
Canada certainly has a fine bloodline of bands that could quite literally start lists for days and British Columbia’s Galactic Pegasus is no exception to this fine lineage with the band’s 2016 opus “Phantom Of The Hill”.
Kicking of with a neck snapping track called “Jenova” clocking in at 1:15 is a short sharp kick to the teeth, “Hypothermia” has a slow groove about it with the classic dare I say “dejent” sound about it but of note here is a slight jazz infusion with synthesizer overtones and dazzling fretboard work – phew! The title track “Phantom Of The Hill” could be the soundtrack to your nightmares, it pays homage to Meshuggah rather unashamedly but in a very classy way.
Also of note are the vocals stepping in deathcore territory, the track “Beauty” has a metalcore sensibility about it in particular the backing vocals department. While this is a solid effort and the band have poured every ounce of energy, blood, sweat and tears into this album, there are glaring and obvious holes here as it’s not a ground breaking album. That being said if your after a riff fest with loads of heavy break downs then by all means have a listen, assured to get your heart rate up!
