Hatebreed – The Concrete Confessional

Nuclear Blast - May 13th 2016

Hatebreed return with a powerful album titled “The Concrete Confessional”, a fiercely aggressive album that touches on political and social issues in today’s world. The trademark sound is all there of course but while Hatebreed remain as close to their roots as possible, these new songs also hit some new territory in certain parts.

Without coming off as the proverbial broken record, Connecticut’s favorite metal/hardcore sons return with another slab of angry inspiring anthems to get you through your day. It would seem almost pointless to say that this is a brutal opus BUT more then ever it seems to be the case with lyrics like “Once had a shotgun to my head and they said I wasn’t worth a bullet, now the world is my trigger and I’m here to fuck’n pull it!” Seems to be a pretty succinct statement with varied lyrical content, this album is a stand out from the pack. The theme of world and political unrest is spelled out in BOLD letters and an utter contempt for corporate greed and world injustice is front and centre.

As expected and unchanged is the break neck speed of this record and there is no breathing room for the faint hearted, you want a return of sing along gang chants you’ve got it by the truck load! “Us Against Us” is a prime example with a real, dare I say, old school vibe about it. “Walking The Knife” shows off Hatebreed’s sheer ability to go for throat with some solid bass lines, machine gun drumming.

Hatebreed as a band use the time honored formula of “if it aint broken then don’t fix it”, there are no real “flaws”. The only thing and it’s a very minor point is that the album sounds a little repetitive and one song bleeds into the next. That aside a VERY solid album so really the only question that remains is, what are you waiting for…RUN don’t walk to your local store to grab this gem, you wont have wasted you hard earned money. GO NOW!!
