What is it with releases like this? Three new songs, three live songs and a ‘Bonus track’? What’s that all about? Not only that – this is a special ‘European Edition’ meaning those in the US who have it will have to shell out all over again for that exclusive ‘Bonus track’!
That’s not the whole story tough of course – and here’s the kicker – this EP was originally unleashed in March 2010! Really? One new song in 6 years?
the sad thing is of course that the new material sounds so damned good. For a band formed in 1983 and whose first album ‘Feel the Shake’ from 1987 featured new bassist Sami Yaffa from Hanoi Rocks and was a sleazy classic, it may come as a surprise that these guys are still on the road (though obviously rarely in the studio).
OK so whilst a review of a 2010 release may seem moot, it’s worth reminding you that at the time we thougt the new tracks sounded great, stripped of cloying production there was a real grit and a spark to them.
‘Perfectly Wrong’ takes a laid back vibe from the mighty Aerosmith; whilst ‘Going Down (Above The Clouds)’ is wonderful foot to the floor Hard Rock. It’s the third track ‘Dogs Gotta Roam’ though that revisits 80’s Sleazy Rock with both consummate skill and a heap of affection. It’s simply great.
The three live tracks in truth don’t add a lot but are kinda cool to have but it’s the ‘Bonus track’ that is the real draw. ‘Stolen People’ is so cool, with a stutter and a hint of the ‘Snakebite’ riff it’s old done new and done damned well too!
Like we said six years ago – Jeez! Make an album guys!
