Tonight saw the the return of California Deathcore king Suicide Silence’s last stop on the Australian tour was Perth, here’s how it went down.
Perth based Iconoclast kicked off proceedings in style warming the crowd up with a few tracks from the bands 2016 album “Hallucinations”. Now these guys from the outset were determined to get the crowd moving and they did this in spades with sheer groove and momentum in all honesty, it took the early gathered masses some time to get into what these guys were laying down but once it began it was a brewing storm just on the horizon. All in all a solid performance.
Next to take to the stage was Melbourne’s heavyhitters Boris The Blade. I had someone in the audience ask what do Boris The Blade sound like and I said it’s like a herd of elephants being trampled by steam rollers and by hell! Taking tracks from every album to this point as well as the live debut of a new track “Back Stabber”, the sheer power of lead vocalist Daniel Sharp is nothing short of awe inspiring. I was expecting the speakers to blow out!
Next up Wollongong’s Graves. Now I haven’t seen nor heard much of these guys but they were a surprise package in every sense of the word. Thunderous guitars, back breaking drums, great stuff. Now maybe it’s just me here but the vocals seemed a little off, only a minor glitch but this being said an energetic show case, even breaking out the new track “Fear”. By this time the swaying sea of bodies and limbs were at fever pitch, if you haven’t seen Graves I highly recommend you do so as you wont be disappointed.
Last but by no means least, Suicide Silence took to the stage and the entire club erupted. Eddie Hermida looked and sounded like a possessed demon bouncing around the stage, he had the crowd in his palm and he wasn’t letting go. Whipping through tracks like “Unanswered”, “You Only Live Once”, “Disengage” – this band garner much attention and you would be hard pressed to find a more fearsome band on the scene today and as a fan you could truly say that you had an epic night. People were diving off the stage left right and centre, this set had the works – a wall of death, circle pits, Mark Heylmun and Chris Garza on dual guitars – holy shit! To sum up, everyone I saw went home with huge grins and very sore necks that are sure to last for weeks.
