It’s been 5 long years since ‘Back To Life’ Soul Seller’s impressive debut album. With a new vocalist, keysman and drummer on board there’s also an expansion in sound from the straight 80’s Melodic Rock of the debut to add subtle Hard Rock, Classic Rock, even modern and progressive flourishes at times.
For those hoping the changes won’t be too extreme openers ‘Never-ending’ and ‘Given to Live’ are both extremely solid Melodic rockers, songs very much in line with their debut. It’s a great start to things and as you listen on you realise what a great addition Eric Concas’ vocals are: there’s almost a youthful Dio-like aspect to them.
Aside from the vocals we tick all of the other boxes – great individual instrumental performances, great production and most importantly some fine songs and thoughtful lyrics.
There’s hardy a hint of a bad track here with ‘Tide is Down’ and ‘Get Stronger’ adding weight to the Melodic contingent; ‘Memories’ is a fine spirited ballad and the epic ‘Echoes From a Distant Future’ really does show what these guys can do when they run with it.
This is not your average Melodic Rock album, this is a great Melodic album you’ll be listening to for quite some time. An excellent follow up.
