Canberra based progressive metalcore band Whitefall are looking to clear the stages with their debut EP “Origins” which delves into heavy and intricate riffs and hooks that will be bound to interest a few fans of the genre. A special guest also features on one of the tracks as well!
Fairly new to the scene, Canberra alternative metalcore band Whitefall give us a new 5 track slab of brutality in the form of “Origins”, starting out fairly gently with the opening track “Serenity” and then just like a gunshot, the vocals kick in and all hell breaks loose about as subtle as a brick to the face. The production on this album overall is right up there, an example of this comes in the form of the track “Dreamweaver” with every band member pouring every ounce of energy to create something special with the aforementioned track having a real ‘djent’ tone about it. I know it’s a much overused term in my opinion but this is the term I can only use, in particular when you hear the guitar tone. The drumming here is also great, solid and fearsome.
Now for the surprise package of the album, Dan Tompkins of musical juggernaut’s “Tesseract” makes a guest appearance on the track “Causality” which brings a little something different to the table. Now unfortunately this album suffers from two fairly significant flaws, the first being that it is bruteish and all cylinders are firing however it lacks some direction. In one track you’re listening to metalcore and the next track you’re hearing a hellish form of deathcore with the vocals in particular and for me it sounded quite generic overall. I’d be interested to see what this band are like in a live environment, I think it would be one hell of a performance and here’s cheers to the next round – watch this space.
