ALBUM REVIEW: Evanescence – Synthesis

Sony Music - November 10th 2017

If you’re a fan of the existing catalogue then the chance to hear the best known Evanescence tracks given the orchestral treatment with Amy Lee on piano and voice may be an experience you must have but for casual fans and others this is simply a remix album with a couple of new tracks thrown in as ‘sweeteners’.

In truth though the two new tracks – lead single ‘Imperfection’ and ‘Hi-Lo’ a track that includes a guest performance by famed violinist Lindsey Stirling are pretty damned good and though many bands have been down the ‘orchestral’ route before there is clearly something about Evanescence’s work that really lends itself to this treatment.

Both Standard CD & Digital versions of the album are available as well as a limited-edition deluxe box of the album, which includes the CD, a DVD featuring a documentary on making the album as well as an instrumental and 5.1 surround mixes of the songs along with a book of the orchestra score composed by David Campbell.

Not essential but a surprisingly good listen.
