ALBUM REVIEW: Spacetrucker – Launch Sequence

[self-released] - March 31st 2017

Spacetrucker - Launch Sequence

Spacetrucker are a fuzzy stoner rock band from St. Louis whose penchant for the rock n’ roll vibes that  borrow influences from Kyuss and Black Sabbath is all you need to know to give these guys a serious listen.  Their debut EP “Launch Sequence” is being re-issued just incase you missed it the first time around and if  you love this kind of music then there’s no excuses not to get into this.

Spacetrucker waste no time on this, what could almost be an album given it’s 7 tracks which makes it a  healthy EP. The interestingly titled “New Pubes” gets things going immediately with a scorching fuzz guitar  tone that grooves nicely with the rest of the music. It’s a little sludgey in parts but it’s groove rock at  it’s best no doubt. “Giza” has a very Kyuss feel to it, it’s an instrumental piece which kind of caught me  by surprise this early in the tracklist but it’s catchy as hell that also has a jammy vibe to it’s loose  style.

Spacetrucker play around with a bit of doom and psych rock here and there while also having an almost  classic 70’s rock feel like in the doomy, riffy “Old Flower”. It’s the “Science Of Us” that really has that  classic feel though with a nod to Black Sabbath as well as some mighty bass lines and a real loose and jammy  feel once again. The whole vibe of Spacetrucker really is about that looseness of the songs where the songs  breathe in and out and let the riffs and the beat make it’s mark.

The final two tracks, “Trenchfoot” and “Ain’t Gonna Be Me” come and go fairly quickly but it’s a great way  to end the EP, the latter having a ton of great energy as it comes crashing through to close out “Launch  Sequence”. With 7 tracks on an EP release and being the quality of the songs as it is, anyone who digs this  will be waiting impatiently for the full length album to follow but in the meantime, sink into this for now.
