ALBUM REVIEW: The Screaming Jets – Noise Collection (EP)

Available on Tour 2017

Aussie Rock music is still alive and kicking despite what they tell you. In May last year The Screaming Jets released their 8th studio album Chrome, their first in 8 years, a release that pricked up more than a few ears of critics and the fans alike. Well as a celebration of a great year for the band they’ve launched an exclusive live 5 track EP (with all tracks from the Chrome album) titled ‘Noise Collection’. There’s only one bit of slightly bad news – the 5 live tracks (recorded across the country on their 2016 tour) and EP are only available from live shows.

That makes this an immediate and rather nice collectors item, though will leave international fans wanting. As releases go its a brave move for any band to only feature their new material, but the proof is in the listening and as those that have heard ‘Chrome’ will know its a mighty fine album.

As you might expect from the band the real power of their live shows shines through, and the EP also captures Dave Gleeson’s inescapable charm. It’s more than just a tour souvenir, but sadly just a bit less than the full live album we all crave and wait for patiently!

The Hard Rocking highlights of Chrome are all present and correct with the real sizzling highlights ‘Atomic Cowboy’ and ‘Razor’ really sounding gritty and glorious, and the cover of Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ rounds things out nicely. Highly recommended.
