Australian blues artist Paul Winn Band releases ‘Live at Lazybones’

Paul Winn band

Paul Winn Band is the dark horse of the Australian blues scene, not often in the limelight, but then chiming in with work of exceptional quality. The band’s new album ‘Live at Lazybones’ is no exception.

As the title suggests this collection of originals and classics was recorded live at the Sydney club Lazybones Lounge, and features a band at the height of its powers, with tight grooves, excellent tones and Winn’s voice soaring above everything.

Lead track ‘Down So Long’ was first recorded by J.B.Lenoir in 1956 but also been made famous by Albert King, Sting, Cindi Lauper and others, and in the hands of the Paul Winn Band becomes a blazing shuffle powered by the guest harmonica by Rick Wilson.

Winn’s originals take the trip from funk to blues and his reading of ‘Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime’ from 80’s new wave one hitters ‘The Korgis’ is another highlight.

Influenced by artists such as Robben Ford, Dave Matthews Band, and Robert Cray, Paul Winn Band has released two studio albums and two live albums and has nearly half a million views on youtube and counting.
