Britain’s sludge warriors OHHMS share live video for “The Hanged Man”

UK’s sludge metal purveyors OHHMS are pleased to unveil the video for “The Hanged Man” exclusively on Metal Hammer. This burning, anti-establishment diatribe is taken off their widely acclaimed debut “The Fool“, out now on Holy Roar Records.

OHHMS’ new video for “The Hanged Man” takes the shape of an exclusive live session that was performed, recorded and filmed at Small Pond studios in Brighton, UK.

About the song’s theme, vocalist Paul Waller states: “When Small Pond studios invited us down to Brighton to film a live take of one of our songs, it was a no brainer for us to opt for ‘The Hanged Man’. It’s usually the best received song when we play live & also our personal favourite to play, as it varies between being utterly complex and difficult to execute one minute, and then oddly one of the easiest songs we have to perform in the whole set the next. It’s a strange beast indeed.”

Lyrically, it’s an observational piece about the ongoing right wing slant of the current bulk of tabloid newspapers in England, and how this has been a subtle and not so subtle tactic utilised by them for years to push forward their dubious political agendas. In fact, in the middle of the song I sing a headline from The Sun in full. It’s the horrific collection of lies they printed on the front page the day after the Hillsborough disaster back in 1989. The power that newspapers still have over the general populace is massive & the responsibility is huge. Yet time and time again I walk past the newsstand & read scandalous trash headlines. It’s a heartbreaker that this is allowed to go on. A total heartbreaker.

OHHMS just got back from a successful European tour that included festival appearances at Desertfest Belgium and Into The Void in Germany. This live video is another excerpt off their highly-praised debut “The Fool” issued this spring on Holy Roar Records, which has been described as “the real deal” by Metal Hammer, “a ultra-heavy, emotionally-charged debut album” by Kerrang and “the kind of album that elevates a band to greatness” by Terrorizer, and has established the five piece as a reference outfit among UK’s underground heavy alternative scene.

Armed with the thickest riffs and fieriest will, OHHMS formed in 2014 in Kent, UK. It didn’t take long for the five-piece to come up with two stellar EPs “Bloom” (2014) and “Cold” (2015), both released on London-based extreme music powerhouse Holy Roar Records. Clocking in at over thirthy minutes, each EP unfolds with two monolithic, angst-ridden tracks, blending the downtuned approach of doom metal with more progressive, eerier landscapes. On top of this distinctive approach in songwriting, vocalist Paul Waller maintains maximum adrenaline levels by alternating sumptuously deep gravelly singing, his warrior bellows and roar-is-war call to arms.

As fearless explorers of the heavy music scope, OHHMS quickly built a strong reputation among the UK’s underground scene, which led them to play major events such as Desertfest, ArcTanGent, Bloodstock, Damnation, Incubate and many others. Three years after their thunderous beginnings, the band is back in March 2017 with their debut full-length “The Fool” on Holy Roar Records. True to themselves, OHHMS continue their boundary-free ascension in quest of the sonic panacea, more determined than ever to brand minds with their cathartic, transcending creations.

Debut album “The Fool” is still available on
