While it was an extremely successful twelve months for the fairly fresh faced Chelsea Rockwells and this New Year is already beginning to look even more promising for the three-piece. Fresh from their impressive #75 placing with “Aztec” in this year’s 4ZZZ Hot 100, alongside rotation on premiere rock radio stations Triple M and Rebel FM, theGold Coast rock outfit are keeping this momentum going with two more major announcements, the ball is most certainly rolling.
Forming in the ashes of past musical projects in late 2015, the trio locked themselves away for months of intensive song-writing before bursting onto the scene with their explosive live show and bold, unique take on heavy rock.
Returning with another glimpse into their highly anticipated debut EP, this high-octane release “Halos” builds upon their signature alternative, grunge sound which they accredit to the likes of Opeth, Jack White, and Led Zeppelin to name a few.
“Halos” packs a serious punch. Demonstrating a rougher, tougher sound, this can be clearly heard immediately with the dark, gut wrenching guitar riffs, and even the deathly solo in at the song’s ending. Vocalist Jay Vincent’s bright, adrenaline packed and sharp tone effortlessly contrasts the chaos, bridging the gap between ‘mosh in their chair’ to ‘chant every word’, making for an incredibly interesting middle ground.
“Halos” presents a strong and important message too, as heard in Jay’s line “I sold my soul, I’m empty”. Drummer Sean Dalton explained this relatable and integral message further. “’Halos’ touches on the theme of crossroads in your life -The idea of selling your soul for something you want or love and the conflict of decisions in your life when you have to weight up what’s right, wrong verses what you need.”
Their heavily anticipated debut EP is set to break down walls like no other. Teaming up with acclaimed producer Matt Bartlem (Dead Letter Circus, Jarryd James, Matt Corby) at the prestigious Loose Stones Studios and well respected mastering/mixing engineer Forrester Savel (Karnivool, Shihad, Birds of Tokyo), the group recorded debut EP in early 2016 and have been finely tuning it for the last year.
Chelsea Rockwells have also recently announced that they will be supporting fellow rockersThirsty Merc, and Screaming Jets on their multi-date tours.
