Being a Muslim woman, wearing a Metallica shirt and making fun of hiding explosives in her hijab, is bound to get a reaction!
Frida Deguise, the Punchbowl based (where else?) Lebanese Muslim, mother of four is smashing down barriers and stereotypes about Muslim women in comedy and healing the divide through the power of laughter.
She is funny, outspoken and is making her own rules about what a Muslim woman is allowed to say and what her audience is allowed to laugh at.
Frida performed in her first solo stand up show at the Sydney Fringe 2016 and toured with the annual comedy hit show, ‘A Very Woggy Xmas Gala’ with Joe Avati, and Gabriel Rossi.
With a passion for comedy writing, Frida has a gift for landing a good joke which she proved as a writer’s attachment on the ABC’s Gruen program, where she was thrilled to get a joke on air on her very first day!
She is currently developing a sitcom and a feature film and on some Saturday nights, Frida performs her one-woman footy dance wearing her Manly guernsey, but you’re not lucky enough to see that!
Running parallel careers as a stand up and also being a successful fashion designer, Frida has been listed in the Buzzfeed 19 Muslim Australians Who Are Owning It Right Now.
Frida will perform two shows at The Factory Theatre
