House vs. Hurricane are back and they are gifting us with their brand new album Filth, set for release on June 2 via UNFD. Dubbed “Crooked Teeth on crack” by House vs. Hurricane’s original guitarist Chris Shaw, the first taste of Filth is new single “Give It Up”, filmed during their reunion appearance at UNIFY 2017.
Featuring the Crooked Teeth-era line up, Filth is the first batch of new music from House vs. Hurricane since 2012. The foundations for Filth were laid immediately after House vs. Hurricane called it a day in 2013. Shaw had written a bunch of songs when the band broke up with the intention of starting a new band. A few years and a series of fruitless auditions for a new frontman later, Shaw called his old bandmates Daniel Casey (vocals) and Ryan McLerie (guitar/vocals) to see if they wanted to sing on the new record, because ultimately the songs were written with them in mind. The pair were keen and they headed back into the studio throughout 2016 to finish Filth. What came out of the studio is an aggressive tongue-in-cheek collection of songs, with the record’s title a tribute to their departed dear friend and sound engineer Westley Higgins, whose favourite compliment was “that’s filth!”
House vs. Hurricane returned to the stage at UNIFY 2017. Their first live show in four years, the set at UNIFY was meant to be a very special one off but has reinvigorated the band to continue on into the future.
“We got asked to play Unify, and that was a really special show for us, it inspired all the guys to jump back on stage again,” says Shaw. “After House vs. Hurricane I was the only one that continued playing music, so the guys missed performing. I wouldn’t say we are back per se, but we just have the intention of releasing music when we can and playing a few shows every now and then. Three of the guys are married with kids, so it’s definitely not an easy task to line up our schedules for touring or shows.”
Before they called it a day in 2013, House vs. Hurricane released a trio of albums with their last one Crooked Teeth solidifying their place in Australian heavy music history. The record gained significant triple j airplay, garnered ARIA and AIR award nominations, a slot on the main stage at the Big Day Out and debuted Top 20 on the ARIA Charts in 2012. To this day it remains one of the highest selling UNFD releases of all time.
Filth is available for preorder via 24 Hundred and iTunes.
