Melbourne metal monsters King Parrot returned to Perth on Wednesday night to an expected packed crowd with fellow locals Disentomb, Pagan and Rat King. This tour marks not only the hugest venues the band have dragged their vicious sounds into, but also the fourth continent they’ve stormed into on their mighty album tour.
First up was Perth hardcore/Punk outfit Ratking to warm up the early punters and they didn’t disappoint with snapping vocals and brasin guitar work, taking tracks from the 2014 “Commonwealth” album. This band get better with every show, don’t underestimate them by a long shot, well worth your support.
Now next the surprise package of the night for me, Melbourne’s Pagan, combining solid riffs with crunchy bass lines and the howling female fronted vocals added another layer to an already intriguing band. Of note front woman Nikola was moving around the stage, half human-half snake like serpent in the best way possible, it was truly mesmerizing! This band will leave you wanting more, I can’t wait to see what is next for these guys.
Next up Queensland brutes Disentomb took to the stage, by this point I felt like I’d been hit by a bus and run over by a steamroller just based on the sheer sonic terror. These guys unleash from rumbling bass lines to razor sharp guitar licks to hell inducing vocals, they are taking on the world and conquering it in every sense of the word. Stand out tracks included “Vultures Descend and “Pyres Built FromTheir Severed Wings”. One of our finest exports you bet.
Speaking of fine exports and I’m not talking about the beer, King Parrot were up next and these guys are the ultumate party band with plenty of banter and shit stirring to keep the crowd eating out of their proverbial palms. Vocalist Matt Young was at the top of his game tonight with his unmistakable delivery, songs like “Die Before You Die”, “Bozo” and “Piss Wreck” were stand outs while the band looked and sounded amazing with energy levels through the roof.
Not one single note was missed, plenty of cheesy jokes were told, loads of beer was drunk and I guarantee every person was moving in the club. King Parrot and the rest of the bands came, saw and kicked major ass! Well done, we are definitely looking forward to next time.
