Melbourne tribal psychedelic outfit AlithiA have recruited Marjana Semkina from Russian Chamber Progressive band iamthemorning as special guest on lead vocal duties for their upcoming 29-date European tour supporting Norwegian prog-rockers Leprous and Iceland’s Agent Fresco throughout October and November.
AlithiA’s lead vocalist John Rousvanis is unable to join this tour as he is currently recovering from a recent injury and will be returning to front-man duties from January 2018.
Hailing from St Petersburg, Russia, iamthemorning have received recent international acclaim winning the 2016 Album of the Year in the Progressive Music Awards and Marjana herself has also won both the
Female Vocalist of the Year award and Woman of the Year award in the 2016 Prog Magazine Readers Poll. Marjana joins the AlithiA live line-up amongst other recent guitar recruits Tristan Chu from Brisbane based rockers Aerials and Nguyen Pham from Melbourne prog band Enlight.
AlithiA will be releasing their Sophomore album in early 2018, which was recorded Greece at the end of 2016.
The production of AlithiA’s sophomore record was backed by the support of their fans, raising over $10,000 in their Pozible crowdfunding campaign.
Recorded at Artracks Studio in Athens, Greece, the record was produced by London based Daniel Sandor (Thurtson Moore/Sonic Youth, Valerie Jean/Kosheen).
Marjana comments:
“”It’s very important for us musicians to stick together, helping each other out in the merciless environment of music business, and i am very happy to step in to help out AlithiA on this tour. Prog community always seemed very family-like, and i believe that this is how it’s supposed to be to grow and prosper. The guys are making great music and are delivering it with equally great passion, and i believe that even though it might transform into something slightly different with me as a lead singer, we’ll make sure it works. This will be a great experience for all of us and i’m looking forward to hitting the road with the band”
AlithiA’s keyboard player Daniel Costantino comments:
“We feel absolutely honoured to be sharing the stage with Marjana. The situation has been a very emotional one for us as our beloved brother and friend John can’t join us on this run. We played with the concept of taking an instrumental set on the road, but decided to travel with Marjana both for her exceptional delivery and interpretation of the music. We’re incredibly excited to share this unique and rare experience with her!”
Since returning from their European tour in November 2016, AlithiA’s momentum hasn’t stopped building as they’ve been supporting a series of International bands including Alcest (France), The Ocean (Germany) and touring Australia with Mother’s Cake (Austria) all within the last 6 months. The band have also been confirmed to appear on Progfest 2018!
Renowned for their explosively chaotic live shows, AlithiA has been receiving ongoing critical acclaim;
“The kind of emotional fireworks that could send the world’s festival stages into orbit” – Metal Hammer
“They exist in a genre of one. They are indefinable…their live show is starting to attain legendary status.” – The Music
“Alithia don’t put on a show – they provide an experience.” – Beat Magazine
Although AlithiA sit amongst the psychedelic, post-rock and prog genres, their sound is not easily categorised. Their music encompasses uplifting melodies with mutant riffs, driven by tribal percussion and a shamanistic feel which captivates you whole.
AlithiA’s crtically acclaimed debut album ‘To The Edge Of Time’ (2014) was recorded in Budapest, Hungary. This album led AlithiA to traverse Europe 3 times and garner many fans across the continent. AlithiA has also toured Australia extensively, with notable performances at Progfest on 4 occasions – including last year’s sold out edition at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne. AlithiA have supported some of progressive heavy music’s biggest names, including Animals As Leaders (USA), Dead Letter Circus, Ne Obliviscaris, sleepmakeswaves, Caligula’s Horse & Tides From Nebula (Poland).
Their 2016 short film ‘Sacrifice’ premiered at the ‘On Vous Ment’ Film Festival in Lyon, France and is due for an impending release.
