An all ages metal festival are far and few between in Perth which is unfortunate given there is a big market for teenage metal fans, granted they may not have the finances to necessarily attend many of the big shows but it is a demographic largely ignored for live gigs.
The first ever (and hopefully not last) Rising Force Metal Festival organized by Stu Mcgill who also runs the popular Stormrider Festival was recently put on this past Sunday during the long weekend at the new live venue Vision Studios in Victoria Park which has primarily been a rehearsal studio for bands to rehearse and jam at and it makes sense to step into the live venue scene given the spacious room allocated for the show which sonically sounds fantastic. Despite the location being a little away from the cafe and bar strip of Vic Park which would of made this venue an even more promising idea, overall the festival worked and gave people an even bigger reason to not wander off and actually come check out the bands on offer.
The lineup was stellar and featured a wide range of heavy acts from first timers like The Night Caller Massacre to regular Perth rising stars like Bayview Suspect, Remission, Icarus Lives, Suffer In Rot and Nucleust to even bands travelling in from out of town and out of state like Morilla from Albany and Vow To Conquer from Queensland and of course the main drawcards of the night, power metal heroes Silent Knight and Perth’s premiere prog rockers Voyager who are about to embark on a European tour.
A combination of a good crowd, excellent bill and a killer sounding venue made for a pretty successful and fun day so let’s hope we see this one again in the future.
