The four-headed Irish-Australian outfit hailing from Sydney’s Inner West, also known as Flickertail (formerly The Bitter Sweethearts), have released their new single, Talk, the first track lifted from their forthcoming EP, Hurry Up and Wait, slated for release in early 2018, with shows scheduled for Sydney, Canberra, Bendigo and Dubbo.
Talk is a lovely little blended smoothie of every ingredient that defines and differentiates Flickertail, with the delicate, lilting melody in the intro giving way to obstreperous guitars and thunderous drums. It’s like ABBA via Thin Lizzy, dusted with a bit of Biffy Clyro and mountainous spades of Oasis – Talk is rock and roll played the way it ought to be: brash, honest, equal parts vulnerable and impenetrable. It’s a track about loving someone who can’t love themselves and hoping your love is enough to stop them doing the unthinkable.
Flickertail honed their sound in the garages and booze dens of Sydney before hitting the road in 2015 to showcase their unique sound at every pub, club and backyard along Australia’s eastern coast. The end of that year saw the band landing coveted opening slots with Aussie rock heroes Buffalo and Sarah McLeod on top of endless sweaty shows with local legends Black Aces, The Lockhearts, and Foreign Kings. 2016 had them taking their infamous zero-bullshit live show on the road once more, supporting the likes of The Casanovas and US juggernaut The Supersuckers.
In 2017 and 2018, armed with a record deal, their wits, guitars and their stunning good looks, Flickertail plan on conquering every state across this vast, thirsty continent. Hitting the pavement in October in support of their new single, Talk, a national tour is also planned for next year in line with the release of their upcoming EP, Hurry Up and Wait.
