Rolling into some serious momentum this week, Wild Honey have launched their very own record label Spillway Records, just been announced on the BIGSOUND 2017 lineup and today share the rousing new video for their single ‘Break Away’. Following it’s premiere with Rolling Stone yesterday the video is essential viewing for anyone stuck in a rut and those celebrating the band’s single launch this Saturday at The Landsdowne hotel.
Advancing the aspirational message behind the track, the video’s protagonist – a dissatisfied ad exec. – breaks out both figuratively and literally of the banality of routine with spectacular consequences. Co-directed by Kansas Smeaton and Byron Keane, the video for ‘Break Away’ is the first visual taste of Wild Honey’s upcoming full-length album, set for release later this year with details announced soon.
The track was recorded with Jack Moffitt (The Preatures, Mosquito Coast) and mixed by Doug Boehm (Girls, Dune Rats), and is the first release on Moore’s very own record label, Spillway Records. Moore said his decision to create the label was born from the opportunity to give a voice to artists who might otherwise not be heard. “Our ambition is to connect with artists in the early days, help them find their strength, overcome any hurdles and reach their potential,” he says. “It’s an exciting time for independent artists, but all too often young bands are swept away and end up being exploited in one way or another. ”
No strangers to success, Wild Honey’s self-titled debut EP in 2016, as well as their first track, ‘Eye To Eye’ scored solid rotation on triple j and the band hit the road nationally with supports for fellow indie darlings The Belligerents, Hinds and Twin Peaks. Rounding out the year with a performance at Lost Paradise, the band racked up a whopping sixty shows in twelve months.
Wild Honey launch ‘Break Away’ at Sydney’s The Landsdowne Hotel this Saturday (July 29th) with support from local legends Planet and Sunscreen.
