ALBUM REVIEW: Cordova – Runaway Summer EP

At just four tracks this introduction to Cordova, a band who have their own take on the sonic territory in which bands like Alter Bridge and Aussie Rockers Thirsty Merc (or even at times an amped up Daughtry) dwell, is brief but compelling.

The band who hail from New Mexico consists of Oliver Charity on vocals, Scott Guthrie and Erik Kurtz on guitar, Jason Reed on bass and Mikey Stampede on drums and ‘Runaway Summer’ is the follow-up to their 2016 EP ‘Staring at Fire.’

Opening with the passionate ‘Hiding’ the riffs and angst-ridden vocals hold sway, before the charismatic title-track lets you know this is serious stuff. ‘Trigger Happy’ that follows is just as good as the band hit their stride before quickly it’s all over as ‘Weighted’ kicks in with it’s Godsmack-like edginess adding another dimension to the sound.

Heavy and accessible this shows a lot of promise, I just want more.
