ALBUM REVIEW: Kore Rozzik – Vengeance Overdrive

Deadline Music - 20th July 2018

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I stumble upon bands that I’ve never heard of at all and Kore Rozzik was one of them. So to bring you all up to date I’ll let the bio clue you in: “Led by bastard child of NYC (and band namesake) Kore Rozzik, the band has gained a reputation as a can’t-miss live act and have supported such well-known bands as John 5, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Buckcherry, L.A. Guns, Steven Tyler, and more!

So there you go! Lot’s of hype and lots of expectation all of a sudden. What you get in the 7 tracks and various staged ‘skits’ (as the band refer to them) is a mix of Metal, horror, theatre, attitude and inspiration, and whilst it carries a hard edge throughout on tracks like ‘Mistress’ it mixes in a little light industrial throb along with the compelling vocal and real sense of melody.

If you can imagine a heady mix of vintage Cooper, Zombie and Borden then you’re getting there but there is certainly something more and it might just be that potent stench of old school Metal riffs that inject a lot into the songs and a touch of sleaze that is definitely not the Sunset Strip variety.

As well as the single ‘Mistress’ our highlights include the drum-driven Metal slash of my pick of the litter ‘Bitter Rat’; the catchy hooks and great riffs of ‘Dirty Little secret’ and the Thrash Metal riffs and offset melodies of ‘Guilty as Charged.’ This is very good indeed and for once those ‘skits’ or ‘interludes’ really do enhance the whole.
