The new single from Avenged Sevenfold titled ‘Mad Hatter’ for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has been released and this fan girl was eager to hear what Avenged Sevenfold had in stall for us lovers of metal and gaming.
Right from the start we get into the heavy guitar riffs and that oh so sweet Avenged Sevenfold sound. I can totally imagine myself immersed in Call of Duty with this playing in the background. It gets the heart pumping and the adrenaline up for over 5 minutes.
“Black Ops 4 looks insane and is something completely new for fans, so we felt that we should take a similar leap with the music and go for something bigger, darker and more cerebral,” says Avenged Sevenfold lead vocalist M. Shadows.
True to form the production is great and really puts an emphasis on the full sound for this single. There are some excellent complex drum fills in there that make one wonder how the F@*!K does he do that??
About the Mad Hatter creative process, Shadows says, “Watching the initial trailers and looking at production sketches reminded me of the ‘S-Town’ podcast and its main protagonist, John B. McLemore, who was rumored to have suffered from mercury poisoning, or Mad Hatter disease. The idea of Mad Hatter and what it does to the brain is as frightening as the images we were shown. So I decided that the lyrics would shadow McLemore’s life. The result is a thick-grooved song that’s dynamic and has a weightiness to it.”
With a catchy baseline and M. Shadows growling vocals it will be an experience to hear this while ducking, running and shooting up bad guys in Call of Duty. The guys have done a great job of producing a great song for a great game.
