Huge instrumentation meets raw and evocative vocals; this is Club Yorke.
With their new single ‘Stop the Bleeding’ the Melbourne based indie rock band have embraced a new chapter of their artistry along with a recent name change. Having established a solid reputation for themselves as a formidable live band on the east coast under their former project Residual, the four piece have emerged ready to tackle 2018, as Club Yorke.
For fans and newcomers alike to the Club Yorke fold, ‘Stop the Bleeding’ is a strong statement of intent. Heart very much on sleeve, vocalist Sam Burtt wails and implores with emotion as guitars build and percussion swells.”We wrote Stop The Bleeding towards the end of what I guess was really an accidental hiatus. We had been writing lot of stuff that we were proud of and tweaking it here and there in preparation for a new single but one rehearsal, this song just happened. I remember having one kind of improvised run through of it and it all just fell into place from there, it was really one of those special rare moments where the song really writes itself. Discovering it rather than contriving it from nothing”.
Much like Gang of Youths, Matt Corby and even INXS before them, Club Yorke’s latest falls perfectly in line with the continuing formation of an Australian songbook rooted in earnest and heart wrenching songwriting and booming musicianship that does more than linger shortly after the first playback.
This month, Club Yorke will be touring with fellow Melbourne indie group, Empire Park. Celebrating the release of their new single ‘God Knows’, taken from their forthcoming EP Nobody’s Watching Me, Empire Park and Club Yorke are set to bring some electrifying live music to a venue near you, through into July.
