After spending much of 2018 working away on new material and preparing a brand new live show that is ready to kick ass, Melbourne’s Drunk Mums are back, baby. The rockers today release their new album, ‘URBAN COWBOY’: 10 tracks of straight up rock goodness, best served raw.
As with their previous releases, Drunk Mums have remained hands on throughout the whole making-of process, with bass player Adam Ritchie on recording duties. Acclaimed musician and mastering guru Mikey Young also laid his flair onto Urban Cowboy, the final result being an accomplish collection of music from a band who is continuously coming into their own.
To celebrate the release of Urban Cowboy, Drunk Mums are going to be heading out on the road, taking in venues on the east coast with the most ideal tour partners – New York’s own, Dirty Fences Watch Dirty Fences 911 Here
The band’s central ethos of presenting no-holds-barred rock music in its most undiluted form has continued to shine with ‘Phantom Limb’ and throughout Urban Cowboy, and has shown that Drunk Mums’ time on the road over the last few years has most certainly added to the finessing of this sound.
Recently released single ‘PHANTOM LIMB’ was a welcome return taste of what is instore from Drunk Mums, a perfect example of their new output: catchy, frenzied and steeped in rich riffs and grit. Demonstrating sonic contrast, Drunk Mums share the fun new music video for Urban Cowboy’s title track. The essentials are at play here: a mechanical bull, a good stetson or two, a round of fiery shots and a fusion of fun melody, confident groove and cheeky musical delivery. “The idea of an ‘Urban Cowboy’ came from looking at a press photo of Justin Timberlake and tricking the guys into thinking that he’s done a country album. We filmed out the back of our mate Pablo’s house on a cold and windy day. Couldn’t be more proud of the clip; you can tell the weather didn’t stop us at all!” Drunk Mums
As a whole, Urban Cowboy is an album made for house parties and large venues alike. The music proves Drunk Mums defy the expectations of a punk rockin’ partying band; they can still throw down and play sweaty with the best of them, but as a band they’re presenting a slicker edge in exploring and further developing their sound.
Having built a reputation over the years for their rowdy live shows and impressive knack for riling up their audiences with straight-to-the-heart punches of percussion and dirty guitar riffs, it’s no surprise that once you do a Drunk Mums show, you can’t turn back.
November and December will see Drunk Mums make their long-awaited return to the stage, bringing with them a new live show that is set to blow. Off the back of a successful run of shows through Europe with their DENIM & LEATHER EPs, Drunk Mums are ready to enter a new chapter with Urban Cowboy.
Joining Drunk Mums on the road, New York’s Dirty Fences; brandishing their own style of rock n roll, the Brooklyn group head to Australia after tackling Europe with their latest album, Goodbye Love. An album full of hectic riffs and chugging instrumentation, Goodbye Love is a great representation of the Dirty Fences sound, and complements Drunk Mums’ Urban Cowboy brilliantly. It’s a perfect coupling: wicked charm meets ferocious aesthetic. Drunk Mums and Dirty Fences on the road together is the type of show your parents warned you about. Giddy up!
