Kimura - Euthanize-Sterilize

October 5th 2018 will be an auspicious day for Western Australian Groove Metal heavy hitters Kimura as they release their hotly anticipated 3rd EP “Euthanize-Sterilize”. The time is right for Kimura’s 3rd release as 2017 was a highly successful year for the band and also the start of a brand new era in the bands history. Last year they debuted their new vocalist Josh, which added a whole new dimension and intensity to the band. They also had their song “Book of The Dead”, from their 2016 release “Kintsukuroi”, nominated for the WAM (Western Australian Music) Song of The Year in the Heavy/Metal category. So off the back of a successful 2017, right now is the perfect time to release “Euthanize-Sterilize” and continue their momentum. We take a look at the latest material to see what the band have cooking for the metal fans looking to jump into some fresh heaviness.

Kimura have ripped the necks off their followers for almost a decade in the Perth metal scene. Their 3rd EP Euthanize – Sterilize is delivered in a “pissed off” manner sculpting the pathway for the modern metal genre. Opening track My List, is a no nonsense, full steam ahead , no holds bar assault on your ears. The opening riff is an up tempo groove that doesn’t stop except for the clever bass fill that breaks up this violent track.

The carnage continues with Hollow Seed followed with the thick guitar intro of Bloodfan which is definitely the classic metal anthem of this EP with it’s subtle Machine Head guitar harmonics clearly evident. Continuing on from that, the great musicianship and proficiency becomes even more apparent in The Crown with a slightly tainted neo-classical riff laden edge putting this one on the highlight reel of this release thus far.

Closing things out, Swine is the soundtrack to your worst enemy due to its unrelenting driving force
just before the trigger is pulled. With the maniacal pig slaughter intro, this track is the most relentless with vocalist Josh Kelly touching on different themes such as abuse and bullying but on the lighter side of things, the retribution sound of cooking bacon at the end of this track is quite humorous and caps off a fitting end to the EP.

There is definitely no doubt their strong Lamb of God influences are evident throughout this EP but the further you delve into these set of songs, the more brutality is discovered from these West Australians. 7/10
