EP REVIEW: Satyr – Neutrino

[self released] - 2018 | Review by George Novotny

Satyr - Neutrino!

Satyr, the Atlanta post hardcore quartet present their debut EP Neutrino. The young band have already faced challenges in the wake of lineup changes and more but here they finally release what all the hard work has finally paid off on.

Beginning as a bedroom project in Atlanta, Georgia as a way to be creative in the form of technical music but with the power of soaring melodies and structurally sound arrangements, .Satyr established themselves as a potentially musical force  in the southeast U.S. music scene. After some challenges with solidifying a stable lineup, the band finally release their impressive debut EP “Neutrino!“ and they show no signs of stopping.

At first listen you quickly succumb to asking yourself “ this sounds like….” but upon further listening you discover these guys mean business. Driveway Conversations is the EP opener with its hardcore/post hardcore melodic guitar riffs and clean/dirty vocals is just a taste of the refreshing and colourful
show case that lies ahead.

Andromeda is an example of their superb musicianship and songwriting skills full of technical but catchy passages, which also makes a great official video. Jumbotron is nice little surprise that comes in the form of an instrumental and definitely features a potential signature sound with more melodic
phrases, tempo changes and lush guitar tones.

Overall these guys have great chops and surprising hooks with finely honed skills. There is a mixture of a little something for everyone here. 8/10
