Gabriel Vargas ‘Like Wolves’ OUT March 2

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.  “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.  “One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.  “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.   “This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”  The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”

That Cherokee proverb means a lot to Gabriel Vargas.  This introspective Native American influence weaves itself throughout his music and daily life and within his important new release, Like Wolves – a song that traverses the tenacity of old wounds and turning victimhood into empowerment, out March 2.  With lush piano, a building, emotive drum beat combined with unique native American flute, the accompanying video captures the true, undeniable beauty in the way that humans are able to grow and move past traumatic events.  Gabriel Vargas will be launching his stunning new offering at Melbourne’s Croxton Front Bar on March 17.

Stream: Like Wolves

I’m swinging you a line to see if you would be keen to feature the powerful new single from Melbourne musician, Gabriel Vargas on The Rock Pit?  Like Wolves is a deeply personal song, with Gab speaking out for the first time about sexual abuse (within his family) and how he wants to give power to those who have suffered by encouraging strength through growth.  It’s a pretty intense subject and also a really brave move for Gabriel, and the result is a really special song with a strong message for all.  Love to see if you would be able to get a news piece  live on the site with a clip embed or Soundcloud embed to help get the word out about this moving single?  Or perhaps you’d like to tee up a phone chat or e-mail Q&A for a more in depth feature?  Also, I have review tickets available to his show at the Croxton, so just holler if you’d like to get along.

Hoping to raise awareness on domestic violence against women with Like Wolves, Gabriel will be donating his online earnings to The White Ribbon Foundation https://www.whiteribbon.org.au.  And it’s also worth noting that International Woman’s Day is around the corner on March 8.
