Hendrix Flat Sessions announce next artist performances in London

Hendrix Flat Sessions

We are thrilled to announce the next artists taking part in our Hendrix Flat Sessions, filmed here at 23 Brook Street, London.

Handel & Hendrix in London includes the third-floor Mayfair flat which Jimi Hendrix called home in 1968 and 1969. At the heart of this is the main living room, painstakingly restored to how it would have been when Hendrix was in residence and offering an insight into the domestic life of an American superstar musician at the height of his creative powers. Jimi Hendrix’s musical life thrived while he lived here; it was the scene of many hours of writing, visits by fellow musicians, hours of playing records at high volume on his turntable, countless jam sessions and was the place he returned to after his Royal Albert Hall shows on 18 and 24 February 1969.

Jimi’s now-legendary jam sessions at his London flat lasted long into the night and included the likes of George Harrison, Ritchie Havens, Roland Kirk and many others. We are continuing that spirit with a series of Hendrix Flat Sessions, filmed inside Jimi’s old bedroom in Mayfair.

We had the pleasure to welcome the immensely talented New York guitarist Marcus Machado to play Hendrix’s legendary Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) in his own unique style. Marcus has been playing the acoustic guitar since the age of one and the electric guitar since the age of two. His first performance was in kindergarten where he played Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary”.

Meanwhile British blues sensation Aaron Keylock joined us for a stripped back version of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”. Teenage guitar sensation Aaron Keylock released his highly anticipated debut album Cut Against the Grain just last year. Classic Rock Magazine have called him “blistering” and a “precocious talent”.
Previously we have welcomed the sensational London singer-songwriter Oscar Jerome who performed “Give Back What You Stole From Me”, Dutch psychedelic trio MY BABY and blues star Joanne Shaw Taylor who impressed with her performance of “Dyin’ To Know”.

Other performers including Zakk Wylde have enjoyed the intimacy of Jimi’s bedroom to perform live for the radio.

All performances have been a tremendous success and we are hoping to host many more and to continue to build on the strong musical legacy here at 23 Brook Street.
