Established in 2013, Italian Progressive Metalcore outfit Prospective is writing a new chapter in their story, with the release of ambitious LP#2, Unreal. Following debut record “Beyond”, the group has earned substantial momentum in the Italian scene, making a splash with their melodic guitar work, juxtaposed by a rivetingly heavy delivery and technical flair. Carrying impressive accolades under their belt, Prospective has shared the stage with genre favorites such as; Northlane, Oceans Ate Alaska, Betraying The Martyrs and Napoleon, as well as partnering with highly regarded Federico Ascari and Matt Dalton for the production of their new album. We get a quick Q&A with guitarist Luca Zini to find out a bit more on the new album.
Tell us about the process of writing and recording the new songs.
All the songs are written by Luca (guitarist) and Flavio (drummer) and the approach changes a lot from song to song. Basically we write all the parts by our own and then we record it a home so we can already listen to the final product and maybe change what we don’t like. For the first time on this new album few songs like “Only You” were written entirely at our rehearsal room while jamming. The recording process begins with the writing as we said before and when we are happy with the result we re-record everything in studio.
What were some of the things you wanted to achieve with the release?
Our main goal with Unreal is to reach as much people as possible as leave a sign. We want people to get lost within our music and melodies.
Do you enjoy the process of creating? Are you someone who continually writes or does the best come out under a little gentle pressure?
Absolutely! We love to write songs and we constantly write new stuff.
What does it feel like as an artist waiting for the songs you’ve lived with for some time to get released to the fans? Is there a sense of excitement or a little panic in there too?
It’s a mix of the both. From one side you can’t wait to release it and see what people thinks of it and see how they are gonna react to them. From another side you are totally in panic for the same reason. You won’t know if the fans are gonna like it or not.
How does it compare to previous releases/songs?
They’re way too different. We grew up a lot since “Beyond”. We decided to move forward on melodies instead of pure technical riffs. We of course have some tech songs that we are sure lot of people are going to get in love with but we also have more pop/metalcore songs.
What were the lyrical themes of the songs?
What were the main inspirations for the release/songs? Luca, which is the main lyric writer, takes inspiration from personal experiences and usually he writes about love, anger, life, relationships and society.
Any favorite moments or songs on the release?
Hard question! (ahahah) It’s very hard to pick songs, we basically love all the songs on the record and everyone of us has its personal favorite moments or songs. We all agree that So Far Gone and Nile are the most powerful songs on “Unreal” and maybe they are the most heavier.
Did you imagine how these songs would play out in a live situation?
Absolutely. It’s one of our main step while in the studio writing and recording to already focus on how the songs would play live. We love gears and during the last couple of years we have accomplished our own way to test songs for live. We all practice with in-ear system to listen to every single detail on the songs so we can give our best at a live show.
Any additional notes or info about the release that you would like to add?
Thank you for the quick talk! Just simply go pre-order it, it’s coming out March 9 and we can’t wait to play those songs live and see what people are going to say. Feedbacks are vital to us, so if you guys reading already had the chance to listen to “So Far Gone” and “Only You” reach us out on our social pages and let us know what you think.
