After a long two-year hiatus Perth melodic death metal band, Let’s Kill Uncle, return to play a one-off show at Amplifier bar with a hand-picked selection of diverse local acts. With vocalist, Anto, living in Switzerland and drummer, Mickey, working out of Dubai it’s been difficult for the band to get together for shows or rehearsals. This long-awaited performance was remarkably satisfying due to the absence of the band in the local metal scene.
Groove metal machine, Bayview Suspect, opened the night after almost a year away from the stage. This newly signed band played a flawless performance and started the night with a bang, from working on their new EP these guys haven’t gotten out much working hard behind the scenes. It was a pleasant surprise watching them crush the stage again with their sheer brutality and catchy riffs, playing some older songs and treating us to some of their latest material. The extremely talented vocalist, John, brought such energy to the stage while he proceeded to fulfil our desires of ferocity. As the band perfectly executed the show the crowd started to flow in being drawn to the power of the beating drums and the unforgiving guitar work. The collaboration of talent these five guys have make Bayview Suspect a force to be reckoned with, continuing to create great music and overwhelming live performances.
The rapidly ascending blackened death metal maestros, Solum, played their first show with newly recruited guitarist, David Steele, making this the first time playing as a four-piece band. Commencing their reign of chaos with their recently released single, Evoking the Dead, they continued to show no mercy in slaying the stage as each song was just as brilliant and relentless as the last. The pure passion these guys share for music makes them an immensely impressive live act who never fail to stimulate the fans and get the crowd moving, as well as creating talented masterpieces. The savageness of vocalist, Jackson Alex, is perfectly complimented by the vicious guitar work of band members, Brad Wreford and David Steele. The exceptional live presentation showcases the true potential of this band and where the future may take them.
Stoner/sludge metal band, Bayou, were up next to bring some diversity and a truly unique experience with their psychedelic influences perfectly infused with heavy hitting guitar riffs and merciless drumming. These guys were so full of enthusiasm bringing the stage to life with their energetic performance. Drummer, Stu Huxtable, held nothing back as he precisely dominated the drum kit with such brutality and filling the crowd with exhilaration. With vocalist, Dean Robertson, unleashing a mixture of clean and fierce vocal styles keeping a good balance of headbanging insanity and soft rocking sounds to the songs. Bayou have some well deserved up and coming international tours in the near future proving that hard work pays off.
The main supporting act for the night was Perth extreme progressive metal band, Nucleust, who have just returned from their European tour supporting Six Feet Under. It’s no wonder why these brilliant musicians have gone a long way in a short time, their brilliant stage presence is what entertainment is all about. The constant crowd interaction keeps the fans feeling like they’re truly a part of the show. From the moment the brutality began the crowd was back in action indulging in the superbly merciless vocal work by front man, Shannon Marston, and the mind-blowing technicality of guitarist, Max Palizban. Watching these guys tear up the stage is always a pleasurable experience and one that is to be remembered. Nucleust are a band that continue to impress and blow people away with their perpetuating talent and ability to perform to professional standards.
After waiting two years the crowd was excited to finally see the local melodic death metal legends, Let’s Kill Uncle, up on the stage one more time. With a superior blend of heavy hitting, chunky guitar riffs, melodic solo’s and masterfully constructed drum patterns you can’t help but bang your head to the beat. Astounding vocalist, Anto, was very appreciative of the fans that turned up and being able to play in Perth again after moving to Switzerland. The crowd quickly turned into a mosh pit as the band played through their Earth shattering songs leaving no stone unturned. It was easy to see why they became a favourite amongst the Perth metal scene and even after all this time can still get together and put on an incredible performance. For a band that is this ruthless and untamed, Let’s Kill Uncle consists of some of the nicest and grateful blokes in Australian heavy metal. Whether you’ve been a fan from the start or have recently discovered their music, there’s no doubt that this show was not one to be missed.
