All the roads were covered with snow. That didn’t stop fans from missing a Pvris show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey, on Saturday night February 17, 2018. I was amazed at how crowded the venue was from front to back as the snow kept falling outside. Band members consist of Lynn Gunn (Guitar, vocals, keys), Brian MacDonald (Bass, keys), Alex Babinski (Guitar, keys). This alternative rock band are currently continuing their North American Tour in support of their newest album “ All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell.”
The opener for Pvris was Cherry Pools which hit the stage around 8pm. This group reminds me of the indie band called The 1975 which has a similar sound. I can definitely see these two bands on a lineup for a future show! Cherry Pools just premiered a new music video “Are You In Love?” on February 10th, so I would highly suggest to check it out! It’s a pretty catchy song that you can dance along to so I am hoping there is a debut album to follow.
The second act was Flint Eastwood from Detroit, Michigan. She walked on stage in a casual look, wearing overalls, a long sleeve shirt and black shoes. Lead singer, Flint Eastwood seems to be very confident and tells the world in her music that we can overcome feelings of uncertainty and uniqueness. Most of her songs are about realizing self worth, regardless of gender identity. During the performance, Flint Eastwood talked to the fans about being nice and respectful to people. Her song, “Queen” from the EP “Broke Royalty” seemed to be a big hit at the show.
Pvris appeared on stage at 10pm to headline the show. The band members were mostly dressed in black. Lead singer, Lynn Gunn started the set by playing a song on the piano. The first song of the night was, “ Heaven” which is featured on their new album. Other songs from their setlist included, “What’s Wrong” and “Winter.” These songs are also on their album “All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell.” During the show, Pvris played a mix of songs from their debut album “White Noise” and most recent album. One of my favorite songs that they played from their first album was, “St.Patrick.”
Lynn paused during the show and thanked the crowd for being there and supporting the band while there was a snow storm. She also mentioned how this time last year they were finishing up their new record while it was snowing outside which made the next song of the night extra magical. Lynn also told fans to be careful driving home in the bad weather and to pull over if anyone has trouble seeing the roads. The one thing I noticed about Pvris is the band members really care about their fans and appreciate the continuous support.
After the band played “ My House” the lights went out and the crowd chanted “One more song, One more song!” Pvris encored the show with “No Mercy” which lead the fans to crowd surfing during the song. If you haven’t seen Pvris on tour I highly recommend seeing one of their shows. I have seen Pvris three times in concert and they always put on a phenomenal performance!
