The night kicks off with local hero’s Ragdoll who set out to play a solid set of good ol’ Hard Rock. Hair twirling like its 1989 with a sound to suit but with an added modern crunch to please. If we had Ragdoll in ’89 I’m sure MTV would have been all over it, Hot Metal magazine would have had them on the Covers and the scene would have been better for it. Times have changed but thank god good Rock & Roll stays true. Great show.
Tempest Rising hit the stage going in all the other directions….and fast. TR have been around and have mastered their craft quite well. Ballistic attack a la Killswitch Engaged with melodic vocals entwined with brutal death howls. Crowd anticipation helped the boys through a blistering set of metallic tunes.
I have been fan of Saliva since Every Six Seconds hit the streets in the early 2000’s so seeing them live was something i was keen on to say the least. With a hard hitting heavy groove of ‘Ladies and Gentlemen ‘ kicking the show off it was clear from the get go the band were running on all 8 cylinders.
Bobby Amaru has fitted perfectly into the singers roll and has been a solid member now for 6 years after original singer Josey Scott left for a solo career. His voice holds up well and considering that it was the 5th show in a row and he doesn’t seem to lose anything is a credit to him.
The band are very solid and showed how tight they are in hits like ‘Back into your System’, ‘ Superstar’, ‘Always’ & ‘My Disease’. Even a little Acoustic solo with Bobby digging into some Floyd, Brittany Spears, Alice in Chains and an awesome cover of Silverchair’s ‘Tomorrow’.
Their big hit ‘Click Click Boom’ went down a treat and reminded us why bands like Saliva are great to have come tour down under. Best show I have seen in a while by far.
