Tonight it was Perth’s turn to be pummeled into submission with the return of one of Sydney’s finest exports, Thy Art Is Murder. Now first things first, you can tell it’s going to get hectic just by the sheer volume of people through the door and this prediction came true with the room filling up at a rapid rate.

First to take to the stage were fellow Sydney metal crew Justice For The Damned, they came, they saw….. but the overall sound let them down unfortunately. Taking tracks from last year’s monstrous album “Dragged Through The Dirt” to me the sound was muddy and distorted which as I said was unfortunate but to the band’s absolute credit they pushed on through. The one highlight that springs to mind was seeing frontman Bobak Rafiee bounding around the stage like a man possessed!

Next up were New Jersey deathcore heads Fit For An Autopsy and I have to say I was mighty impressed, these guys in my humble opinion are underrated in the extreme with driving rhythm sections, pounding drums and savage vocal. A perfect example of this was the track “Black Mammoth” taken from last years album “The Great Collapse” as well as other tracks like “The Jackal” and “Heads Will Hang”. This band for me were the surprise package of the night.

Next to bring on the mayhem was Emmure. Now with a little digging around these guys are labeled as “metalcore” but I don’t really buy into that because they have a unique sound of their own. Frontman Frankie Palmeri looked like a demonic robot! Sounds strange I know but that is the only way I could describe it.  Phil Lockett on bass was a total machine and a sight to behold and the band just seemed to have an endless supply of energy, standout tracks here included “E” and the neck snapping “Natural Born Killer”.

Now we’ve come to the main event and the crowd at this point are at fever pitch, Thy Art Is Murder emerge from the shadows to deafening roars. I’ll put it to you in simple terms, if looks could kill then frontman CJ Mcmahon just took out the entire front row! Steam rolling through a solid set including “Holy War”, “Emptiness” and “The Purest Strain Of Hate”, of note also were the razor sharp newer tracks “Slaves Beyond Death” and “Puppet Master”. With plenty of banter and crystal clear sound TAIM continue to demonstrate why they lead the way in Australian heavy music, until next time keep up the absolute domination guys!
