You know what really grinds my gears? A grind gig packed with absolute brutality and mind-altering support bands. The sickest band in the holy land, Viscera Trail came to Perth from Israel for the first time ever in Australia to slam their way across our land and deliver an unbeatable experience for all to bear witness to.
Opening the slam fest was drum machine grind terrorists Cumbomb, who sounded exactly like their name dictates. This two-piece band came out on stage wearing nothing but leather studded vests and their tighty whities along with their balaclavas. These guys were here to bring the party and did exactly that, not taking themselves seriously at all made their set so much more entertaining to watch, never failing to make the crowd laugh at their ridiculous yet super satisfying tracks. These two guys, accompanied by their cardboard cut-out of a One Direction member sporting the Cumbomb merch were definitely a highlight of the night. It was hard to not enjoy watching Cumbomb do what they do best, which I’m not entirely sure what it is that they do best but nevertheless they were awesome to watch.
Second on the bill was slamming guttural brutality brought to us by Iniquitous Monolith, this four-piece death machine was seriously an amazing performance. Sheer savagery was cast from the stage as the crowd was compelled to bang their heads, the fans couldn’t get enough and in true metal form the mosh pit broke out into circle pits and walls of death. This was the debut show for the band and it was nothing short of incredible, they brought crushing gutturals from vocalist, Taz, and their energetic interaction with the crowd made them an act to be remembered.
Arterial Hemorrhage were up next and were the second two-piece band for the night, left with the original line-up after “kicking out the posers”, although this didn’t hold them back from delivering an awesome show. Armed with a vocalist, guitarist and drum machine these two guys took things to the next level. During their set they played some fan favourites such as “Milling Till You Shit” and “Shitting Till You Mill” along with a fantastic cover of the Waking The Cadaver song “Chased Through The Woods By A Rapist” with guest vocals from Adam Whiteman who executed the viciousness with no remorse.
Party grind onslaught 9 Foot Super Soldier didn’t fail to entertain as they came out on stage dressed as Jewish Rabbi’s and played entertaining and hilarious ten second songs along with some tracks that were a bit longer. This three-piece party outfit brought comedy to the stage as well as a groovy yet heavy playlist of their original masterpieces. With an album in the works 9 Foot Super Soldier will be sure to return to the stage in the near future to continue their shenanigans.
Blackened death metal masters, Solum, destroyed the stage as a three-piece while guitarist Brad was away on holiday. Guitarist David Steele stepped up and took on the role of lead guitarist for the night and was completely successful in bringing the relentless ferocity to the fans. These guys never fail to get heads banging and hearts racing, from the black metal style riffs to the guttural inhumanity that comes from vocalist, Jackson, Solum will always be a fan favourite. With this show being their first international support they definitely earned it and completely slayed their set in good form.
Coming from half way across the world for the first time, three-piece death slam maestros’ Viscera Trail, completely obliterated our shores. With some of the most brutal pig gutturals I’ve ever heard these guys had the whole room losing their minds for the entire duration of the set. It was amazing to witness such savagery come from a few short guys from so far away. Being dubbed “the sickest band in the holy land” they certainly lived up to their names, the fans conjuring a relentless mosh pit as Viscera Trail tear the venue apart. The accuracy and sheer talent of the drummer paired with the chunky, headbanging riffs of the guitarist were second to none. The interaction they had with the crowd was on a personal level and really made the fans involved in this unforgettable experience. These guys truly made an impression on everyone at the show and with any luck we’ll get plenty more opportunities to be able to see Viscera Trail play our city in the future.
