Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name

A roundup of the latest news from Metal Blade Records including updates on Harlott, Candiria, Visigoth and Rivers Of Nihil.

Australian Thrash Maniacs HARLOTT will be back to Europe this April with Havok, Darkest Hour and Cephalic Carnage!

Harlott’s Andrew Hudson comments: “We are extremely excited to be returning to Europe this April to be part of a brutal line-up of some of our personal favorite bands. We can’t wait to get back to the countries we visited with Annihilator back in 2015, and we are bringing our fastest and angriest live show ever with us.”

HARLOTT released their third album Extinction in April 2017 via Metal Blade Records. The album features 12 tracks of furious riffs, spitting verses and face melting shred blend effortlessly with triumphant melodies and thundering groove to make a diverse and adaptable record that pays tribute to the kings of Thrash Metal, and makes waves in the new dawn of evil.

Vocalist Carley Coma of Candiria has launched a new series of videos for the band’s latest album While They Were Sleeping.
The series will go in depth into the story behind the concept of the album. The first video is for track #1, the title track, and is streaming below:

New videos for each track will be launched in sequence in the coming weeks.

Since their inception in 1992, Candiria has been lauded for their ability to mesh decidedly different styles in a seamless way. They were named one of the “10 Most Important Bands in Metal” by Rolling Stone back in 1999 for consistently releasing music that challenges listeners, thrills critics, and – most importantly – attracts a legion of dedicated, diehard fans. Their latest album, While They Were Sleeping, continues that legacy, with Pitchfork.com hailing the band as one of “the most convincingly flexible acts that metal and hardcore have ever seen”.

On Friday, Salt Lake City’s traditional metal champions Visigoth will release their second album, Conqueror’s Oath, via Metal Blade Records.

For a preview of Conqueror’s Oath, the new single “Steel and Silver” can be streamed now below:

Standing in staunch opposition to any presumptuous notion of “reinventing the wheel” or “redefining the genre”, Visigoth instead dedicates themselves to worshipping at the ageless altars of heavy metal with a singular focus on writing music inspired by their favorite records. Whether whipped into a frenzy ignited by classic USPM or NWOBHM anthems, or pensively meditating on traditional epic heavy metal or weighty doom-inspired moments, these Salt City hessians wear their influences proudly on their sleeves.

With their new 2017 long-player Conqueror’s Oath, Visigoth stays true to the title and conquers the sophomore slump blues with 8 iron-forged anthems of pure metal magick guaranteed to satiate the hunger of the rock’n’roll hordes! Returning to the depths of the Boar’s Nest in their hometown of Salt Lake City to record once again with engineer extraordinaire Andy Patterson (Subrosa, Deathblow, Dreadnought, et al), Conqueror’s Oath was hammerforged in a whirlwind month of mayhem and mastered by Dave Otero of Flatline Audio (Satan’s Host, Nightbringer, Khemmis, et al).

Immortalized by breathtaking cover art created by none other than underground album art legend Kris Verwimp (whose work has graced records by Absu, Bewitched, Desaster, Horna, Moonsorrow, Skullview, Arkona, and many, many more) in proper swords-and-sorcery fashion, Conqueror’s Oath stands tall on the field of battle, serving as a gauntleted fist in the face of non-believers. Prepare for the onslaught of Salt City Steel!

On March 16th, Rivers of Nihil will release their third full-length, Where Owls Know My Name, via Metal Blade Records. Whereas The Conscious Seed of Light (2013) and Monarchy (2015) were thematically centered around spring and summer, respectively, Where Owls Know My Name represents the fall. And although that season is usually associated with death, for Rivers of Nihil, the autumn serves as a rebirth.

For a first preview of Where Owls Know My Name, the album track “The Silent Life” can be heard here:

Where Owls Know My Name reunites Rivers of Nihil with Monarchy producer Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, The Last Ten Seconds of Life) and Dan Seagrave, the storied artist behind such celebrated album covers as Entombed’s Left Hand Path and Suffocation’s Effigy of the Forgotten. The result is the Reading, PA quintet’s most visceral, accomplished, and satisfying offering to-date.

Where Owls Know My Name track-listing
1. Cancer / Moonspeak
2. The Silent Life
3. A Home
4. Old Nothing
5. Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition)
6. Terrestria III: Wither
7. Hollow
8. Death Is Real
9. Where Owls Know My Name
10. Capricorn / Agoratopia
