Perth’s premier purveyor of punked-up Simpsons songs, Dan Cribb, dives into the shady world of Springfield’s foremost secret society with his newest cover, We Do (The Stonecutters’ Song).
The latest entry in Cribb’s ever-evolving Worst Tribute Ever project, We Do sees the West Australian muso call on the guest services of Sydney singer Jessica Cerro, aka Montaigne, to deliver a typically addictive, amped-up rendition of the Stonecutters’ self-inflating celebratory anthem.
With music by Alf Clausen and lyrics by legendary Simpsons scribe John Schwartzwelder, We Do originally appeared in season six classic Homer the Great, and its boisterous, boozy refrains remain staunch favourites of series fans more than 20 years on.
“The Stonecutters’ Song is such a staple of Simpsons singalongs, it’s actually kind of criminal that it’s taken me this long to get around to it,” Cribb said.
Now numbering nearly 30 songs in length, Worst Tribute Ever has been a passion project for Cribb for almost two years, and has seen him collaborate with a jaw-dropping cast of guest musicians, including Alex Lahey, Jeremy Neale, Guy Sebastian, Tyler Richardson, Jen Boyce, Bec Stevens and more.
Recent additions have seen Cribb adding to the collection’s oeuvre with fan-favourite tunes such as Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart? and See My Vest, but he’s not done yet; with a special surprise just around the corner.
