ALBUM REVIEW: Cash Box Kings – Hail to the Kings!

Alligator Records -May 17th 2019

Ten albums in why is this a new name to me? Alas with my misspent youth firmly fixed on the Rock scene, it’s taking me years to catch up on all my essential Blues.

The wonderful Alligator Records have a host of great release at the moment and these guys are right up there with the best – 13 songs that are so full of life that you feel  can’t hep but feel The Blues will live forever in hands like these.

‘Hail to the Kings!’ which dropped on May 17th is the band’s tenth album and absolutely essential for lovers of Chicago Blues.  But there’s more… as well as that masterclass you do get some curve-balls – a little plain ol’ Rock and a little taste of the Delta and Swing Blues too.

Opener ‘Ain’t No Fun (When the Rabbit Got the Gun)’ is wonderful and in truth all I needed to hear – with Oscar Wilson’s vocal and Billy Flynn’s guitar doing Chicago proud before the harp solo seals the deal courtesy of Joe Nosek!

The rest of the album just keeps on giving – sensational stuff! Get it in your ears now!
