ALBUM REVIEW: Danko Jones – A Rock Supreme

You always know what you are going to get with Danko Jones and you always know there’s no chance of disappointment. If you’ve followed Canada’s finest since their raring 2002 debut ‘Born a Lion’ then you’ll have enjoyed some great Hard Rock but it’s been the last few releases since 2015’s ‘Fire Music’ that have really cemented the band in the list of artists you simply must see.

Opener ‘I’m in a Band’ contains a lyric that Danko admitted when we spoke to him recently pretty much sums up his attitude to music “I’m in a band and I love it, all I want to do is play my guitar and Rock and Roll”. It’s simple, to the point and just what Rock and Roll should be – from the heart. Typical Danko – primal, full of energy and with a hook that is inescapable.

And that’s what this album gives you – a visceral slab of Hard Rock and Roll from that heart that makes it impossible for you not to react and nod the head and tap the feet. Before you know it, that initial movement has become full on headbanging and air guitar with a smile a mile wide.

Like 2015’s ‘Fire Music’ and 2017’s ‘Wild Cat’ which both featured fine collections of infectious Hard Rocking tunes designed to be played loud and late into the night ‘A Rock Supreme’  follows the same path, but I’d stick my neck out and say that this is the best of those three great albums.

Listen to the crazily good single ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’; the swirling funky thrust of ‘I Love Love’; or the other trio of songs that are being played live at the moment: ‘We’re Crazy’; ‘Lipstick Killer’ and ‘Burn in Hell’ and tell me this isn’t  music to move you!

Danko Jones you’ve done it again. Classy Rock and Roll from start to finish.
