ALBUM REVIEW: Graham Bonnet Band – Live In Tokyo 2017

2019 has seen a huge number of great live albums released and this is really one of the best all year. After last years Alcatrazz reunion that resulted in the live release ‘Parole Denied – Tokyo 2017’ comes this Bonnet release recorded the same year with a band made up of ex-Rainbow, MSG and Impellitteri members.

What you get here really is a live ‘Best of Bonnet’ and for a man who has been ‘belting them out’ for over 40 years the voice is as strong as ever it was.

What impresses most here though aside from the on-point performance by all of the players involved is how well Bonnet’s newer material sits alongside what would be considered the ‘classics’.

‘California Air’ and ‘Rider’ particularly standout from 2016’s ‘The Book’ and together with the staples like ‘Night Games’ and the wonderful Rainbow standards ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ and ‘All Night Long’ this is alive record to savor.
