ALBUM REVIEW: Serein – Bring The Sound

Independent - 19th February 2019

The intro track here ‘Dawn’ that cascades into the hard and heavy ‘Vanity’ of course is superfluous but there’s something likeable about these guys from the off, mixing Metal guitars with Hard Rock vocals and atmospheric leanings.

Sadly down-under Serein (presumably the French for Serene?) is already an ‘RnB/Chillwave’ project (I have no intention of finding out what that is as it all sounds rather ambient and sleep-inducing) and of course these Texans are far from that.

If you like your Metal/Hard Rock mix then this is worth a listen – ‘In the Mud’ perhaps works best at first listen – a gentle mid-tempo mess of drums and soulful vocals, slashed through with chugging riffs, it’s a heady mix that certainly keeps your attention.

Elsewhere there’s not really a dud to be found and tracks like ‘Sociopath’ with its deep groove and mid-tempo pace might just see the band’s sweet spot. Closer and title track ‘Bring the Sound’ though is the one getting most play here at The Rockpit. It’s the song that just nails it.

These guys do this so well. Highly enjoyable, uncomplicated and well worth your time.
