ALBUM REVIEW: Stevie D featuring Corey Glover – Torn From The Pages

I’ve always been a great fan of Glover’s voice but this is the sort of territory I love him inhabiting – nice guitar-driven hard rock courtesy of Stevie D.

From opener ‘Your Time Has Run Out’ with it’s gritty guitar (wonderful solo) and soaring melodies you know this is gonna be a great listen and you wouldn’t be wrong. What you get here is some good honest hard rock and roll with all the bluesy notes you’d expect from Stevie and all the soul you’d want from Corey.

Drop the needle anywhere and you’re onto a winner here – I love the raw groove of ‘Wake Up Call’ and the wonderful blues-laced rocker ‘Final Resting Place’ that follow that blistering opener – three tracks in I’m sold.

I love the initial gentle emotional blues of ‘Strung Out’ that turns into a melodic sledgehammer; and the economical but effective thrust of ‘Fay’ and the real feeling and power of ‘Haunted.’ Deeper in ‘Now or Never’ is funk rock with the foot down and ‘Outta My Head’ adds some swing and keys to the mix, whist ‘Alone Again’ adds a touch of jazz and mariachi trumpet!

Elsewhere all is equally essential like the lilting and fuzzy ‘Soul to Stone’ and the melody-filled mid-tempo ‘This Is The Time’ all the way to the funky  instrumental closer ‘Faceplant.’ Brilliant stuff.
