ALBUM REVIEW: Suzi Quatro – No Control

SPV/Steamhammer - March 29th 2019

The Queen of Rock n Roll is back with a wonderfully diverse collection of tracks on her new album ‘No Control’ which is released on 29 March through SPV/Steamhammer.  Written & recorded with her son Richard Tuckey, Suzi has delivered an album that will please her fans both old & new and with glowing accolades of her recent appearances at The Red Hot Summer she certainly will have collected many new fans.  Suzi has been tantalising audiences in Australia by adding the album’s first single ‘No Soul – No Control’ into her set, with the single receiving hugely positive feedback from around the globe.

Well, I can tell you folks, the album will be received in much the same way, as we are taken through so many genres & styles and it works just so well throughout.  Opening with the gritty ‘No Soul – No Control’ we travel through the sounds of the 60’s with ‘I Can Teach You to Fly, visit Caribbean Reggae with ‘Love Isn’t Fair’ and to the bizarrely wonderful ‘Strings’.  Suzi takes us back down with some seriously groovy blues with ‘Going Down Blues’ & ‘Bassline’.  For me, all the tracks are highlights in their own right but the classic Suzi tunes are still there & come in the form of ‘Macho Man’, ‘Going Home’ & ‘Heavy Duty’.

This is a great album for rock fans of all ages & Suzi goes to show that age is but a number, as she not only sounds fantastic but has proven that even the most experienced of artists can still be experimental with wonderful results.
