To celebrate our grand opening week we’ve put together a special line up celebrating the heritage of music in Fremantle and the venue itself all in one night aptly titled Freo.Gold!
Legendary powerhouse Celtic band FLING are one of WA’s most successful folk acts renowned for their high energy arrangements of traditional tunes, soulful ballads and original songs. Combining a great musicianship, strong melodic instrumentation and a driving rhythm section, the band have played major festivals across Australia and toured throughout the UK, Ireland and Asia.
BIG BOSS MAN is a rambunctious Stompin’ Blues combobulation of 50-something troubadours, lavishing raw blues with all groove and growl. Big Boss Oxenburgh barks out front of this Fremantle-forged hissing engine-house, hooked up to Richard Lane (The Stems, Painkillers), Martyn P Casey (The Triffids, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), Shaun Hoffman (Beautiful Losers), Jeremy Fitzpatrick (Lucky Numbers), Alan Holbrook (The Durongs,Racoo,Salary), Clayton Scott (Jude, Wun Dae) and Baltimore’s journeyman Mike Jeffrey. This is a rockin all star line up that you really do not want to miss out on!
Lee Sappho is the real deal. Bold and brassy, she has truly lived her life and sings of it in blues-diva style. Once her style has gotten hold of you, there’s no turning back or gettin’ out. Australia’s tattooed Amazonian Blues singer/songwriter Lee Sappho first gained recognition upon the release her first demo, Big Bad Momma, which sold out twice before her debut album, the award-winning Big Girls Blues was unveiled in 1996. It’s a release that continues to sell strongly and still enjoys regular airplay.
The Chevelles were born in the summer of 1989-90. The twin peaks of revivalist 60’s psychedelia and post punk garage rock and roll had collided in Australia. Out of the West Australian surf crawled four long-haired boys determined to make their own special guitar noise and The Chevelles were born. Featuring members of The Stems, The Kryptonics, The Freuds and The Diehards the band has showcased a wave of blistering guitars, soaring harmonies, and head shaking tunes through their 20 year history.
Rose Parker is an acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist who draws from indie-folk, gospel, blues and alternative country to craft clear-eyed songs of hope and resignation, humour and grief, gratitude and resilience. Her songs go straight to the heart, powerful, passionate and soulful. She writes from a distinctly Australian perspective about living life in this big beautiful red dirt country, the people, the places, the stories. She’s being joined by legendary Fremantle legends David Hyams & Roy Martinez.
The Runarounds are a family band made up of members of the Lemann, Gare and Bell Family and features Lucy and Sophie from The Jam Tarts. Gigs are few and far between due to location differences but when they come together The Runarounds play a blend of country, rock and originals drawing their sound and repoitoire from the likes of chuck berry, Linda Rondstandt, glen campbbell, harry Neilson to name but a few. Come and see Lucy and Felix Lemann, Tom, Sophie and Adam Gare and Blinky Bell coming together yet again as The Runarounds.
The Norfolk Pines are a four piece band from Fremantle, that play an original mix of Roots, rock, blues and folk music. They are made up of ex-members of The Book Of Funk and The Kill Devil Hills. They have a new single coming out later this year, and a soundtrack to the upcoming independent American Horror/Action film “Preacher 6”.
