INTERVIEW: Mars Vali – Incrypt

Incrypt

Incrypt are a 5 piece melodic thrash metal band from Melbourne who recently dropped their latest video, an animated visual feast for the track “Hordes Of Hades” produced by Balázs Gróf who has been responsible for other metal animation clips for such acts as Obituary, Red Fang, Blind Myself and many more. The song has been taken from their latest album Eyes Upon This World. The band are about to tour WA for the first time on November 8th and 9th teaming up with Perth’s own All This Filth so we grabbed a few words from vocalist Mars Vali to find out more on the band and what West Aussies can expect.

Your latest video “Hordes Of Hades” came out a few months ago and is animated, where did the idea to do an animated video in that style come from?

As soon as I seen Obituary do the “Ten Thousand Ways To Die” animated music video I was sold on that style!

BalazGrof did the video and has worked with such bands as Obituary and Red Fang, what was he like to work with?

He’s an absolute legend! The actual process was long because of his other commitments labels and Obituary came first but once he started moving, very professional.

What kind of feedback have you been getting on the video so far?

Everyone likes it! All round positive vibe, solid reaction to date. No negative feedback, just good feedback so got to be happy with that haha.

The song comes from your last album “Eyes Upon This World” which was released in 2017, how has that album gone for you and are you happy with how it turned out?

110 percent. The production on this album is by far the best solid recording we have done with many kick ass tracks from start to finish, this is a must have incrypt album.

What were some of the things you wanted to achieve with that album?

More of  the Melodic Thrash Metal genre was the objective and we achieved.

How does it compare to previous albums?

The Victim Is You album more of a new school hard hitting metal genre but hey, that’s what we did! Both albums are solid and production is still of a high standard.

What were the lyrical themes of the songs?

Ah very good question! Generally myth based story’s from the past and a bit of hell for good measure, nothing too serious or maybe just a little haha. Buy the albums and read the lyrics.

Did you imagine how these songs would play out in a live situation?

Yes we consider ourselves more of a live band than a recording band but making people move is what we are good at 110 percent kick ass.

Incrypt are touring WA for the first time ever, for people who may not know Incrypt, what can people expect at your show?

Uncontrollable head banging, just all-round fun and thrash metal.

How do you pick out a setlist and is that a difficult process?

On this occasion easy as. We are promoting Eyes Upon This World, set list will be songs from that album.

How has the experience of playing live been like for the band so far?

Excellent, we love meeting people at every show. The fans enjoying our music is what makes it, also meeting bands for the first time. You know, there is some talent at every corner of Australia.

Any favorite places to play live?

So many venues to mention but Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Bendigo, Ballarat, Dubbo, Brisbane, Adelaide, Mt Gambier, Warrnambool Etc

Any stand out shows or personal highlights from a tour or show?

We have had a few haha but playing the pier hotel in Frankston (Melbourne) to 600 people was a buzz.

How did the band form and get started?

Well I created the name incrypt in the year 2000 after my previous band folded and rounded up some mates for a jam.

What have been your greatest challenges to date, and your favourite moments musically?

Haha keeping a lead guitarist for more than one album or one music video [laughs], Favourite moments musically is when a very talented musician tells me he liked our show full stop.

From what you’ve learned so far what is the most valuable advice you’ve been given so far as a musician?

Really sell yourself every minute, also own the stage and have fun doing it.

Who are some of your main influences?

Iron Maiden, Obituary, Testament, Kreator, Early Metallica, Death Angel – so many to mention.

Who or what inspired you to be in a band and play music?

Older brothers playing electric guitar loud! AC/DC,  Iron Maiden and the Sex Pistols.

How do you feel about the current music scene right now?

Very exciting, so many great styles of metal local and international.

Do you believe music can still change the world?

Yeah why not! You just never know! Believe in Melodic Thrash Metal.

If you could be a fly on the wall for the recording of any album in history, what album would it be?

The Number Of The Beast.

What is the meaning of life?

Make a difference and have a bloody good time trying.
