Almost a month ago Los Angeles based band Buckcherry released their new album called Warpaint. Since the beginning of the year the band have been on the road touring in support of their newest release and on March 29th their tour stopped by in New York City at the suitably sized Irving Plaza. Joining them tonight was another California band, Joyous Wolf who opened for them.
Joyous Wolf, signed with Roadrunner Records, are currently working on a new EP. This show was their best chance to showcase their new music to well seasoned New York fans and the guys did their job splendidly. Their set was well received by the crowd and while not as loud and flashy as headliners Buckcherry, it was still very smooth and flowing.
In a good way, you always know what to expect from a Buckcherry show. This was not just a show, this was a party.
They opened the set with Nine Inch Nails cover Head Like A Hole, that is included in their new album. Following on from that was their hit single from the All Night Long album, “It’s a Party” and then a new track “Bent” from the newest release. More new material followed with “Radio Song” and you start to realize that all of these new songs were still classic Buckcherry, a sound that has gotten them large air time on the radio and as co-founder and vocalist Josh Todd mentioned in the media, that’s what they want to achieve with this new record, get themselves back on radio waves.
Next came “Lit Up”, their hit song from their self-titled debut album which then signalled time for the jackets of Josh Todd and guitarist Stevie D to come off as the energy started to heat things up. The party entered the next level as the show entered the second part of the set containing all the NSFW language songs the band is known for including “Too Drunk To…”, “Somebody F…. With Me”, “Crazy B…” and exclamation point “Say F… It” to end the show.
Buckcherry never disappoints with their live performances, and this one was as good as they get. New material is strong and fits their set seamlessly. The Warpaint tour will continue for one more month until the summer festivals start rolling in.
