When we talk about Industrial metal, we instantly think about Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein and Ministry. These big three have brought this subgenre into the big stage. Of course we need to mention Rob Zombie and Marylin Manson, however they were more inclined towards mainstream metal. Personally, when we speak of true genre representatives I must mention Die Krupps , KMFDM, Front Line Assembly and Front242, and exactly these bands are the ones that come to the mind when you listen to California’s industrial metal band called 3TEETH.
3TEETH are a fairly new band, however they have already released three studio albums, with the latest one called Metawar which came out on July 5th this year. From this album the band have already released three singles and a few visually striking videos for the songs American Landfill, EXXXIT and President X. With this new material the band has captured a wider audience.
The bands vocalist and songwriter Alexis Mincolla has created his own visual appearance style with round sunglasses, Mohawk haircut and dressing in post apocalyptic Mad Max style outfits. His stage performance is very theatrical and energetic and he also carries around some sort of a trident and has a specially designed Microphone stand.
3TEETH joined American singer Ghostemane on his tour for select shows, the last one of them was in New York City where we had a chance to see their live performance. The show was great! Webster Hall was almost full and the atmosphere was excellent. 3TEETH made the hall rock from the very beginning with Divine Weapon, EXXXIT and American Landfill. At that point the classic industrial metal vibes were on full display, which made me feel like an industrial elitist, recognizing Die Krupps and KMFDM influences. They follow into these forefathers footsteps but still carve their own way.
Though they did not play a long set only adding four more songs, the crowd was satisfied. Their performance was full of energy and passion, and definitely made more fans here on the Eastern seaboard of the US. Next up they will be off to Europe.
The main act for the night was American singer and rapper called Ghostemane. It is very hard to pinpoint his exact place in the music genre. It varies anywhere from trap hip hop to industrial metal and even black metal, and many songs are everything of this mixed together. Ghostemane is a very unique performer, but not the only one who experiments with these kinds of sound.
He is an unsigned artist and his discography is not easy to decipher. His latest album N/O/I/S/E was released in October of 2018 and is only 29 minutes long. However considering that many of his songs are only just over a minute long it’s to no surprise. He has listed multiple albums and EP’s in his still new career.
For what I heard listening to his music online and live in concert, I can sense some Nine Inch Nails influence especially from N/O/I/S/E (No One Is Safe from Evil) material, and you could say that his latest single Carbomb has black metal influence with very graphic videos to accompany it. I would leave his musical classification to everyone individually, but what matters, is that his music is relevant. On digital platforms many of his singles are viewed in millions, with Mercury nearing 200 million views on Youtube.
His show was very interesting to say the least, it was a pretty unforgettable experience. He will take his Hiadica tour for a few more dates in the US and then in February will travel extensively on the European leg of this tour.
