Following on from the success of a three-week season at His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth in March 2018, and having already sold out the forthcoming four nights at The Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach, We Will Rock You is set to rock Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in March 2019.
Since 2002, over 16 million theatregoers in 28 countries have been thrilled by this awe-inspiring production, which is based on the songs of Queen with a book by Ben Elton (The Young Ones, Blackadder, Popcorn). A global favourite for the local stage, presented by Platinum Entertainment WA, the production will showcase a cast of West Australian talent including; Jamie Mercanti AKA Slim Jim, drag artist talent Dean Misdale AKA Feminem (as Killer Queen), Blake Williams (Mix 94.5) and ‘Powerhouse’ Paula Parore (The Voice) playing opposite fellow The Voice Alumni, husband Clay Darius. The cast also features Ryan Dawson, who played Khashoggi in London’s West End production of We Will Rock You.
David Templeman MLA, Member for Mandurah and Minister for Culture and the Arts, is looking forward to attending the “magnificent” show at MANPAC. “It is particularly exciting that the magnificent production We Will Rock You is coming to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in March 2019”, Minister Templeman said. “I think it is tremendous that this world-class show is coming here and including so much local talent.”
Playwright Ben Elton, who wrote the show with Queen, is delighted that the show is encouraging and empowering local talent in his home state. “I was an enthusiastic amateur actor myself when I was younger and I know that theatre arts is a hugely positive force in any community,” said Mr. Elton. “It’s amazing how much unsung talent is out there and I’m very proud that this show is giving an opportunity for so many brilliant West Australians to rock!”
Producers Trevor and Katrina Patient of Platinum Entertainment WA are thrilled to showcase local Mandurah dance and choral talent in the production. “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the excitement and positive reactions to our shows in 2018, there are so many people from different generations with a connection to Queen and the We Will Rock You musical”, said Mr. Patient. “Our Perth cast and crew are an incredibly tight-knit family, and we are so excited to extend this community to include so many talented singers and dancers in the Peel region.”
Choir Manager and Mandurah resident David Major has handpicked over 30 singers from Port Kennedy, Rockingham, Mandurah and surrounds to support the principal cast in their quest to rock the roof of Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. We Will Rock You kicks off at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre with an opening night gala event on Wednesday 27 March 2019, with nightly shows until Saturday 30 March.
